Top 4 Drugstore Mascaras

I'm a little makeup obsessed.

This is kind of funny though, because on any given day I'm either a) not wearing makeup at all, or b) just wearing mascara and some concealer.

It all started back in 2009 when I discovered the world of YouTube beauty videos. Since then, I've watched countless (read: probably thousands) tutorials and product reviews. It's made me a little obsessive about what beauty products I end up spending my money on. I very rarely buy something that has been reviewed poorly by a trusted YouTuber.

Mascaras are my #1 makeup vice. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect one (who isn't?) and always want to look like I'm wearing thick, clump-free false lashes. If I had to pick a single beauty product to take on a deserted island, it'd be one of these babies.

Here are my top picks!

1. Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara - I just recently got myself a new tube of this after being without it for at least 6 months and I'm so glad to have it back in my life. It can be worn to look natural with one coat or built up for more volume. And I love how it leaves my lashes feeling throughout the day: super soft, and not the slightest bit drying. My absolute favorite!

2. Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Mascara - Ah, my first drugstore mascara love. I remember getting this soon after it came out back in '08 or '09 and knowing it was something special. I crave lots of volume over length and this really does it for me. I also like the weird rubber bristle because it prevents too much product from clumping on. Pro tip: I like this mascara even better a month or two into using it once it starts to dry up slightly. You can layer coat after coat to build up volume without much clumping at all.

3. Essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Boost Mascara - Okay, my preference for volumizing mascaras is pretty evident by now. This is another mascara like #1: it can be super natural looking or built up for more volume. There's a big thick brush (much like the Benefit BadGal mascara if you're familiar with that brush) that really gets all of your lashes coated and combed through evenly. This one tends to be the cheapest of the bunch at around 4 bucks or less. Win!

4. Rimmel Day-2-Night Mascara - After hearing Sam from Pixiwoo rave about this a few years ago, I had to give it a try. It was the first gimmicky mascara I tried with a great formulation. You have the option to pull out the "length" wand for a more natural look or the "volume" wand for a more dramatic, night time look. They're actually the same wand (okay that wasn't super obvious to me at first...) but the "length" option squeezes off more product as you pull it through the tube. I've just confused myself. But you should try it! It's pretty neat.

Honorable Mentions: L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes, Cover Girl Clump Crusher, and Revlon Grow Luscious.

And some I'd still like to try: Revlon Lash Potion, Essence I Love Extreme, Prestige My Blackest Lashes, and Almay Get Up and Grow.

What's your favorite mascara? Any that you absolutely stay away from?
