Seven Quick Takes #1

Please forgive my posting this on a Saturday but seriously, Valentine's Day was way more involved than I thought it would/could be. All I had planned was a coffee date with a friend and a date date with my husband but then it turned into being one of the first mall-goers to find a new dress, and baking raspberry lava cakes for lunch dessert, and painting my nails.

As I was taking my sweet, sweet time getting ready last night putting on my makeup and curling my hair a new way, I realized that I better enjoy this kind of thing while I can because I'm guessing date nights are far fewer with babies around and getting ready for any date night will consist of swiping on some lip gloss and pulling on a pair of jeans in a grand total of 2 minutes. Am I right?

Anyways, here is my first ever Seven Quick Takes! Thanks to Jen at Conversion Diary for this awesome link up bonanza ;)

1. I hope your St. Valentine's Day was magical or at the very least you got to eat some chocolate in the shape of a heart. I don't know if I have the authority to speak about this since I joined the married club, but it makes me sad when people hate on Valentine's Day. You really shouldn't rely on a significant other to feel loved, anyways. If you're already about that self love and loving others, the more power to you. But it's kind of nice to have a holiday about love thrown into the mix. And you totally don't need to buy into the commercialism of it but then again I don't think a little chocolate ever hurts. My husband knows his way around a computer and made me the sweetest video of our "digital history" which included screenshots of our first texts, Facebook messages, etc. It was kind of perfect!

2. Speaking of chocolate, I've been joking about doing a sugar cleanse for at least a year now. I'll sarcastically say "ha ha, yeah I'm sooooOooO addicted to sugar..." as I eat a cookie and some chocolate immediately following breakfast. The fact of the matter is I'm a slave to the blood sugar roller coaster (and that black morning juice) and I don't want to be anymore. I was planning on giving up processed sugar for Lent but decided yesterday that I want to start sooner. Like on Monday. I bought this book today and hope I'll have read it and planned for success by Monday morning. Yikesssss, I'm scared. No sugar for 21 days. I don't think I can even comprehend that. But my sweet tooth is out of control and I want to know what it feels like to not have food comas daily.

3. Super de duper excited about the coming of a Guiding Star Center to our neighborhood. My conversion to becoming a pro-lifer was a long one and I'm still pretty much a behind the scenes type of gal, but having this kind of place for women will just be awesome. I would love to volunteer there!

4. I sent some old clothes into thredUP last month and received my payout for it last night. Have you bought anything off of their website before? I can't wait to find something! I've been really into pants lately. I've been a leggingaholic for the past ten winters, but lately I've found myself wanting a good pair of jeans or dark green skinny trousers or something. This is of course is all in my head and I haven't actually started looking for these types of things. Here's to hoping I can find what I'm looking for on thredUP!

5. My husband and I have become absolutely obsessed with Parks and Recreation. We're long time fans of The Office and started rewatching it on our honeymoon back in October. The Office is my comfort food and for the past few months I didn't want to start anything new. We finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago and I just want to sit around and watch it all day and night. Another show I marathoned last month was Scandal and February 27th cannot come soon enough. We're pretty television show obsessed in this household which is funny to me because I can't sit through an average length movie without getting antsy, but we just watched 4 episodes of Parks and Rec and in row. Hmm.

6. Loving UrHealthNut on YouTube. I watch a lot of videos on YouTube and I'm so glad I came across her channel! If you like finding new recipes for mega-healthy foods, you'll love her.

7. And last but not least, let's talk about Edel. As soon as I heard about it I wanted to go so so SO badly just like everyone else, but there are a lot of unknowns in our life right now and so I didn't even try to get tickets on Wednesday. I put my name on the wait list, though, and I just keep telling myself I'll survive if I don't get to go this year. Right? I will probably be attached to my computer and phone (for IG purposes) throughout the weekend so y'all better give us something!

Happy Sunday Eve, y'all! Hope you're enjoying the weekend!

  1. I know it's probably super personal and more than a little emotional, but I'd to hear how you became prolife! It's no credit to me that I've always been prolife, and actually, I think a conversion from one side to the other makes a person that much more legit. Also, I could use a sugar cleanse like nobody's business. Let us know how it goes! :)

    1. I will try to get a post up about it at some point, as I am still in the process of learning a lot and praying about it :) It was nothing too drastic for me -- basically, I was surrounded by a lot of "liberals" during high school and college which kind of encouraged me to be pro-choice. As I've grown in my faith life and got married, things just kind of switched for me! I'm still a little unsure of the way some tend to go about being pro-life, but I know that as long as it's done with great love for our God and for the unborn babies, it is okay! I commend you for always being prolife and not being swayed by others! That was my biggest downfall!

  2. Please let me know if that book is any good, and if you read any great tips to kick cravings! I just subscribed to UrHealthNut. Can't wait to marathon a bunch of her videos! Those truffles look amazing! Also, I love these collab posts! What a great idea for content!

    1. I actually finally watched BreeLovesBeauty's video on binge eating and really liked what she said about just needing to sit there and know that you are stronger than your cravings. The book warns that it may be especially hard the 3rd and 4th day as well as near the end when you think "oh, it's already been 19 days, what's the big deal to have a sweet now?" so I will be taking Cambria's advice into account at these points!
